Ballet East Dance Company received $25,000.00 from the A Glimmer of Hope Foundation.  The project design is as follows:

In keeping with its mission and vigorous community outreach, Ballet East Dance Company proposes to expand its Baile Folklorico Program at Martin Middle School to serve more students, and to offer cross-age mentoring at Metz and Brooke Elementary School.  The students will have opportunities to attend performances of professional companies, and to perform.

In Addition, Ballet East proposes to inaugurate a pilot program in dance and theatre arts at the Dove Springs Recreation Center for students from Palm, Houston and Widen Elementary Schools, and Mendez Middle School.  Students will develop and present an original production at their schools.

Both programs are founded on recognized principles of dance and theatre arts instruction, as well as those known to be effective with students at risk of delinquency and dropping out of school.  Both include a plan for evaluation.
